Man gets six years for hacking 750 women's Snapchat accounts

The hacker, identified as Anthony Joseph El-Khoury, used a technique known as 'Snapchat Snooping' to gain access to these accounts without the victims' consent. This method exploits a vulnerability in Snapchat's old login system where users could reset their password by providing an email address associated with the account. Once El-Khoury gained access, he would send explicit messages and images to the victims. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of cybersecurity for businesses in Canada. Even though Snapchat has since fixed this vulnerability, many small and medium businesses (SMBs) may still be vulnerable to similar attacks due to lax security measures. SMB owners and IT managers should prioritize implementing robust cybersecurity practices, including regular software updates, multi-factor authentication, employee training on phishing and social engineering techniques, and data encryption to protect their businesses from such threats.
